Let's compare actions

Post by Ohio3Wheels »

Just as an educated SWAG I would say that loads that are listed as safe in the TC Contender and Encore are safe in the Wizard. This came up this morning as I was searching for 45-70 loads and came across some RL-7 loads in the Lyman 49th. They are listed as okay in both pistols. I don't own an Encore but do own several Contenders including one from 1969 and while the lock up is slightly different I'd have to say that all other things being equal (metallurgy) they are probably equal in strength.

Comments?

The side plates the TC CONTENDER are thinner than the wizard and were beefed up in the encore. But yes, if safe in the contender would be safe in wizard. What all do you shoot in Tc ?

Let's see if I can remember - 22LR, 6.5mmTCU, 7mmTCU, 357 Mag, 357 Herret and the 44mag/shot capsule barrel. The 357 and the 44 Mag are both octagonal and light the rest are bull barrels. The first 3 listed are all 14" with after market sights for unlimited IHMSA and the 357H is a 10" I shot in production. It's fun to shoot, especially to watch the reaction of shooter around you on a cover range, but it's about as much handgun as I want these days. With 158 grain cast boolits and the right hit it would knock the big bore chickens half to 3/4 of the way to the pigs.
