44 Mag Wizard
Happened across a 44 Mag barrel at the right price so now I have a 44 Mag Wizard. Not planning to use a scope on this barrel, just the factory sights.

Re: 44 Mag Wizard
You should really drop it in the mail to me. I want to make sure it is safe before you pop a pig with it...

Re: 44 Mag Wizard
Tuco, I shot the 44 Mag Wizard today! What a sweet rifle, I want the 357 Mag and 454 Casull barrels real bad and wish that RossiUSA would get off their rear end and offer them!
If I was King Rossi, I would offer limited runs of 30-30 Win, 41 Mag, and 480 Ruger barrels. Say 500 a year!

Rossi might as well throw in a 500 S&W barrel for the more adventurous at heart while they're at it.Ranch Dog wrote:Tuco, I shot the 44 Mag Wizard today! What a sweet rifle, I want the 357 Mag and 454 Casull barrels real bad and wish that RossiUSA would get off their rear end and offer them!

NEF marketed a Handi Rifle in 500 S&W for less than $300.
I hear both NEF and H&R have since been absorbed by the Remington group of companies.
With a 500 S&W barrel you wouldn't need to bother gutting those hogs.
The ft-lbs of ME generated by a 500 S&W rifle is a really big number.

Re: 44 Mag Wizard
I should have added that I really dig the "plastic" three dot sight. The "plastic" is often thrown in a general criticism of the single shots but I love it. In a nutshell, I feel it is better sight than what is offered on R92 and RG, I really don't care it is plastic as the sight picture in the range and brush is great. I think they are offering something like it on the BIG BOY R92s but both my 454 Casull and 480 Ruger had the standard sights.
The only thing that would make it better is incremental marks molded into it for the elevation and windage. That would speed up sight-in and give you a reference to record should the sight need to be removed for cleaning or replacement. I was fumbling around a bit get it sighted in with my 300-grain TLC432-300-RF so I stopped shooting and put a penciled reference mark on the base for every 1/4" in elevation and every 1/8" in windage. That stopped the wandering and I had it sighted in at 50 yards in a couple of shots!
Once it cools a bit, I will shoot it with each of my 44 caliber bullets; the 250-grain, 270-grain, and 300-grain, across three different powders; H110, H4227, and Lil' Gun, and see what it likes best.

Re: 44 Mag Wizard
Actually, I had thought that too! When I mic'd it for the possibility of the 480, I just didn't think it had enough meat at the muzzle to get away with it. I was trying to keep the idea reasonable just in case the real King Rossi every stumbled across these comments on googlepricedo wrote:Rossi might as well throw in a 500 S&W barrel for the more adventurous at heart while they're at it.
Me, I would by a 500 S&W barrel before you could say "Wizard". Same with the others I mentioned!

Re: 44 Mag Wizard
I should have been doing other things but went back and looked at the Wizard and was a bit more careful in my measurements. The R92 480 Ruger has .095" of metal at the muzzle between bore and outside diameter. If Rossi holds everything at SAAMI, no reason to doubt they wouldn't, a 500 S&W would have .010". I think it would be good to go so I want one!Ranch Dog wrote:pricedo wrote:Rossi might as well throw in a 500 S&W barrel for the more adventurous at heart while they're at it.
