Additional barrel for R17YB?

Post by wellsclan »

Traded for a r17yb with a 17hmr and 22lr barrel. Can a centerfire or 45cal ml barrel fit on this frame and where can I get one?

Welcome to the forum! I looked through the Rossi catalog and it seems that they do not offer a muzzle loader barrel for the Single Shot, just the Wizard. The barrels for the Single Shot need to be fitted by Rossi, just like the Handi Rifle requires. The Wizard barrels don't need this fitting, just like the Contenders.

Weird. I had a pair of youth 45cals a while back.

Does rossi still do this?

Best thing would be to call RossiUSA and ask them.

Why not! On my Wizard I reamed a 44 Mag barrel out to a 444 Marlin. Was easy!

I'm worried about the firing pin still striking where it needs to

Forgot about that, I suspect that is a "show stopper".

I just read several articles and u-tube videos on the 17 WSM. Since it is based on 27 cal rf blank the firing pin may have to be modified to strike the rim but a gunsmith should be able to do it. Or wait for Rossi to make a barrel. It looks like an impressive round. Now all they need to do is 20 and 22 WSM . The brass is 50% thicker so they were able to up the pressure also. Pressure and extraction problems doomed the 20 mag for them my when they intro'd it.

Hey well avian, I had several Rossi 22s and have the 17hmr. The barrel bore is offset from the firing pin centerline so they can offer rim fire and centerfire using the same receiver.
I have a new 50cal ml barrel if you want/need it.
