Locking block

Post by Boar Freak »

Hi guys,

registered here in hope to find a solution to mi issue. I have a second hand RGSS 30-30 fired only a few factory round (3 different brand) and all the cases where really hard to extract and the bolt felt locked up. On closer inspection I found they bulged a bit on one side before the case head. There is a bit of a movement in the bolt even with a round in the chamber and after firing the bolt gets stuck in a rear up position. I did pull it apart and it looks like the locking block face have been grind away quite a bit and when I slide it in the bolt slot its a very loose fit.
Tried to contact Importer about new locking block but they couldn't help.

Questions:

Does the bolt of your rifle moves with a factory round in the chamber?
Could someone measure the 336 locking bolt for me to see if it would fit?
If I can not find a new block would low pressure CAS loads work?

Thanks

The bolt should be locked in place and I would not shoot it until a competent gunsmith checks it out. It sounds like your rifle has experienced an overpressure event (several). Both the bolt (forward part of the cutout) and locking bolt (forward, upper portion) will wear. Either that or someone tried to do something with these parts. The place to start is to have a gunsmith check the headspace on the rifle. That will determine if it is safe to shoot or not.
