Pachmayr Decelerator for RG 45-70

Post by muskeg_stomper »

I have a slip-on Pachmayr Decelerator on my 45-70 now but I'm thinking about replacing it with a bolt on pad. Has anyone tried using the pre-fit pad for a Marlin 336 on their Rio Grande to see if they fit?

I'm not sure if the Marlin 336 pad will fit as the RG seems stock seems slimmer to me. I have the Pachmayr guide set, these are the actual frames that are in their grind to fit pads. Even the "Small" is a tight fit at the radius' high and low. I'm not sure there would be enough rubber left to work with. The existing screw holes actually fit the template but I would probably fill them and start over as on my stock they are pretty much "finished".
