The Wood?

Post by pellicle »

Hi

before I actually do anything to my RioGrande I was wondering a few things.

What wood is it?

Has it been treated with anything?

To me the wood feels and smells "raw" but the finish is nice and smooth, indicating nice sanding. I was thinking of applying a linseed oil finish to it, but wanted to be sure of what was there before I did this.

Thanks

Somewhere on the forum, I think in the 92 forum, a fellow that was very familiar with wood identified the wood but the exact species escapes me. It is a hardwood with out much of a finish and a lot of members here have used linseed or Tru-Oil without much prep.

Ahhh! It came up in the Similar Topics at the bottom of the page, it's Rubberwood.

See the topic titled "The Mystery Wood" by pauco.

You're welcome! The Precise Similar Topics is one feature a user would not be able to see if they are accessing the forum with Tapatalk (mobile devices).

I'm not sure what type of wood it is, but I rubbed 6 coats of boiled linseed oil on my Rio Grande and it turned out nice. It is a deep red/orange. It looks nice with the stainless finish on the gun.
