new rio grande 30-30 ss

Post by Durf »

Picked up the rio grande ss 30-30 on Monday ,put scope on Tuesday ,shot 20 rounds on wendsday. Out of the box pretty smooth action and trigger was allright. Wood fit good, shoe polish finish of course, stainless finish good. 452.20 out the door I think they sold it to me for blue price I had to jump on it. It looks great next to my 1892 44 mag ss. At 100 yards nice groups going to try some hornady leveroultion on Saturday. I hope the gun likes it. Any body use the hornady leveroultion on whitetail if so what do you think?

I hope you enjoy your RG3030SS as much as I have mine. I needed to do a couple minor tweaks to make it 100%. It has since been perfectly reliable and quite accurate with the right ammo. I haven't tried the factory Leverevolution ammo yet, but use the LVR powder behind Speer 150gr jacketed bullets and have seen 100 yard groups well under 1". Good old linseed oil rubbed into the wood over the factory stain made it look and feel like it should cost much more than it did.

Well I got to range yesterday with the hornady ammo and the rio liked it at 100 yards. My son is coming over latter today and back to the range we go only 6 days till opening day.CHX77 I have already deburred and polished bolt, hammer, trigger, lifter.I will refinish the wood after season it will match the wood on my 1892 44 mag ss. These Rossies are nice they just need some tlc. Now I just need a 1892 357mag in ss.

well last Saturday the rio got its first buck. A 150lb 6 point at 110 yards and very tasty. The hornady leveroltion ammo did the job nicely 1 shot bang flop. Today my son shot 2 doe with same ammo and same results. Only thing different he was using the 30 year old Winchester I gave him that's the best part. that's also the reason I got the rio was to replace my winny.
