Very nice line up.

I have wondered what a fellow does if he wants to remove the scope base. They don't offer filler plugs and holes are larger than those used on the Marlin. I'm a scope shooter and glad they include the base but I wonder...

If you have the guages, the screw could be sized(thread wise) and something shorter, in an allen head bought or take one of the screws to a store like fastenol, and tell them what you want, they'll most likely be able to cure the need.
Been thinking along those same lines myself, if I pursue it, I'll post the results.

I removed the scope base from my RG and the 6x48 screws I had from Brownells fit great. They do red loctite the heck out of that base. I ended up trashing the base, but got it off.

Due to my old eyes, I changed out the rear sight with a flat top sight. The use I have for the rifle is for some local 200 yard cowboy stuff, so it should do great for this.

Got any pics, part number, or name of the sight you replaced the rail with? Please.

I must not have been clear. I removed the scope base and replaced the rear sight with a Marble's flat top sight Brownells part number 579-066-003
006601 MARBLE 66H SIGHT. I used the tallest because I wanted as much adjustment as I could get starting at 100 yards.

I filed down the center band of the base rail so I could still see the factory iron sights on my Rio Grande .30-30 when I removed the scope.
I attached the scope with Warne QD mounts.
If I bust my scope I'm still in the hunt cause I can still shoot iron with my glasses on.
The best of 2 worlds.
Why remove options unnecessarily.
Options that could save your hunt (or life - eg. wounded bear) when you're way back in the sticks and your primary sighting device (scope) fails.

I removed the scope base too, and I'm awaiting a Williams "peep" site for a marlin 336, Brownells #962-200-002, which will increase my site redius even more, without going to a tang site.

It would be nice if Rossi would include the scope base and screws separately in the box with the Rio Grande as an option for the buyer instead of "welding" the base to the gun with half a gallon of red Loctite.
A lot of shooters still prefer iron sights in leverguns.
Most leverguns are made in short range calibers like .30 WCF, .35 Rem, .25-20, 38-40, 44-40 and the pistol calibers.
I have a couple of BLRs........one in .308 Win & the other in .300 Win where installing a scope is advisable (not necessary).
Even on my BLRs the iron sights (attached with Warne QD rings) are sighted in for 50 yards and ready for immediate use in case the scope fails or I decide to remove the scope and use iron because I'm stalking a wounded bear in thick brush..
Leverguns in my humble opinion are BRUSH rifles where iron sights are sometimes preferable to a scope.
A couple of seasons hunting Black, Brown or Grizzly Bear in Alaska or Canada will convince you of that.
