I like the elastic but a loaded AR weighs a bit more.

Where is the best place to purchase a simple single point sling that would be sufficient. I mean at a store not online.

I have a Magpul MS-2 single point sling, it works very well on my Winchester Trapper. The quick-release snap is awesome, a tug on the little lanyard and the rifle is released RIGHT NOW! But not until you want it released. Look for used ones on eBay.
