hello to all , I was turned onto this forum by a member from another forum . ive been lurking for a week or so till I finally joined . I just picked up a rand hand in 45 colt a couple days ago ive been wanting one of these and talked myself into and out of buying on for quite some time now till I finally took the plunge a few days ago . one of the local shops had 3 of them in stock 2 in 45 colt 1 in 44 mag , I wanted one in 357 to go with my r 92 but the 357 ranch hands seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth ,so I went with the 45 since it was a caliber I already load for . I haven't fired it yet I'm hoping to get it out this weekend .

Welcome to the forum. In that these are a 92 there are plenty of tips for getting it up to speed. In a nutshell remove the buttstock, flush it with non-chlorinated parts cleaner, blow out, oil it, blow it in, cycle the action a hundred times or so. Then just repeat it until the "flush" just washing out clean gun oil.

got a chance to get it out yesterday .kinda disappointed actually , have to aim about a foot low to even get on paper at 25 yrds . I guess i'll either be ordering a new front sight or possibly cutting the notch deeper in rear sight . I only put 20 rounds through it the weather was getting rough . / update/ I read online that there was an extended height front sight available from rossi so I called there customer care dept this morning talked to a nice woman .told her my problem and asked her if there was an extended height front sight available ,she put me on a brief hold and came back and said that there was . so she took my info and told me there was an 11.95 fee for the sight plus shipping then she put me on hold again . she came back on and said since the gun was only a week old they would wave all fees and send it out to me at no charge . so I hope this helps my issue . I have the same hitting high issue with my r 92 357 mag but not to this extent usually a 6 o clock hold right under the bull put me on dead nuts . :D

If not limited on ammo selection try heavier bullets if they function in your gun may be the easy way to get on target as well. Hey if function was good then the rest is easy. Keep us posted +corn

yes it seems to function fine as for the heavier bullet yes I was thinking this as well right now I'm shooting a 200 gr swc and or a 200 gr flat point . I was thinking of ordering the 255 gr rf lee mold from midway . I tried there 252 gr swc mold and the cavities were out of align . so I sent it back to midway they sent me another it was same way so I decided to use what I had here . I also wanna get this gun back for a longer range session but were having some rough weather here in pa . and to make matters even worse on way home from range yesterday my pickup started having issues and its a computer / electronic issue . so the wife and I are sharing 1 vehicle right now till I get the pickup back fun fun .

Howdy,

I did a Google search on "Rossi Ranch Hand Shoots High" and got many hits, so it's common. Some ground the rear sight down or looked for replacement front sights.

This was from someone who had that problem with a .357 Ranch Hand, that called Steve's Gunz:

"I contacted Steve's Gunz Rossi 92 Specialist, Nate Kiowa Jones a.k.a. Steve Young - Professional Gunsmith they recommended changing the rear sight to their Flat Top Rear Sight, and specifically recommended NOT changing out the front sight. I bought the Flat Top Rear Sight Flat Top rear sight - Round barrel [232] - $29.95 : Steve's Gunz, The Home of the Rossi 92 Specialist $29.95 plus $9.995 shipping, installed it and....

The Ranch Hand is cured! At 25 yards, the Ranch Hand will now shoot to "X-Ring" on a 25 yard Bullseye Target, maybe a few inches high at 50 yards. This means I can hit a soda can every time at 25 yard, and a 8" swinging steel target at 50 yards. Very usable accuracy, now I can use the Ranch Hand when hiking on my property."

well I got my new front sight from rossi today ,to tell the truth I didn't think it was enough taller to make much difference . so I put it on anyhow and I also broke out the dremmel and cut the notch deeper in the rear sight . after I was done I touched up the bluing and took it back to the range . when I go to the range its usually early Saturday mornings and most of the time have the place to myself. well today was about 2 in the afternoon and we had nice weather so that wasn't the case today . I set up a few targets opened my gun case got everything set up and immediately got a few new friends when they saw what I was getting ready to shoot . I told them it was still pretty new and had only had 2 range trips in with it so far and the probs I was having . so I loaded it up with some 200 gr swc ammo loaded over unique . 1st round at 25 yrds off a bench hit low on target . 2nd round 7 o clock right below the bull 3rd round in the bull, bingo the front sight changed and rear sight mod worked . I actually had to move the rear sight up 1 click . I put a partial box with 40 rounds out through it today and all and all was pretty happy , I would have liked to have shot it more but was a bit pressed for time . ive still got some fine tuning to do the rear sight might need drifted a tad but I'm on the right track and no longer regret buying it .
