357 Velocity

Post by skiforce75 »

Has anyone here shot their Ranch Hand over a chronograph to see how much velocity gain the 12 inch barrel has? I would love to compare it to ballisticsbytheinch's findings so I know what to expect if I decide to make my next purchase a Ranch Hand. I have a 20 inch 357 and a 16 inch 44 mag R92 and the Ranch Hand raises my interest leveI. I used to have a Contender in 357 Maximum and it leveled deer.

My Contender was (I sold it) in 357 Max and I used Hornady's awesome 180gr XTP. I have one of the bullets that I finished a deer off with after dropping it with my muzzleloader and the mushrooming is impressive. That shot was close up so I imagine the two I dropped from ~~60 yards did not mushroom as much. I love Hornady products. For my pistol bullets, if it is not lead from Missouri Bullets, it is a Hornady bullet.

I haven't looked up Ballistics by the Inch in a while.
Their data looked a bit simple last I checked it. I think there's quite a few variables they aren't accounting for. Better than nothing but not really enough to draw hard conclusions from and the trends were a bit spotty IMO.

Yeah, looks like the data's expanded somewhat.

Wonder where they got the Korth .357.
